The group Meninas de Sinhá
formed by 21 people almost all of them women aged between 61 and 87 years
old living in the Vera Cruz Taquaril and Alto Vera Cruz neighborhoods on the
outskirts of Belo Horizonte. Well known culturally and for its social
commitment the group was born out of social meetings in 1996 created by Dona
Valdete Cordeiro who was concerned about the self-esteem of her neighbors who
were users of strong medications for depression. Thus Meninas de Sinhá comes
from the desire to share experiences and raise self-esteem currently being a
national reference when it comes to social and psychological transformation
through culture. The art of singing dancing and remembering old nursery
rhymes cirandas and childrens games bore fruit and brought important prizes.
To maintain activities and value the elderly the entity promotes projects that
produce CDs DVDs books and tours where women singers perform shows and
workshops having already toured more than 30 cities in Brazil and twice in
Wroclaw Poland being recognized wherever they go as an example to be
followed by all the elderly in the world!
The project will promote an exchange for cultural enrichment
between the Meninas de Sinhá and the Women of Jequitinhonha Group*. The
meetings will be to exchange experiences of traditional practices and knowledge
that inspire give new meaning and enhance our ways of existing and resisting.
Musical enrichment workshops improvement in social
networks finance and guidance for the care of non-institutionalized elderly
people will be held at the headquarters of the institution in the Alta Vera
Cruz neighborhood and in 05 other locations in the Eastern Region of BH.
With the COVID-19 pandemic elderly people benefiting
from the Meninas de Sinhá Cultural Group showed interest in learning how to
correctly use the internet social media and in topics related to financial
education instruction to save money avoid abuse and make better use of
available resources. The project will also offer workshops for elderly people
in the community benefiting from Meninas de Sinhá which will allow learning
and the exchange of knowledge between participants.
